Kate Middleton and her husband Prince William wanted to wait till after the Diamond Jubilee tour to being trying for a little one.
Showbiz Spy reports: The pair announced Monday that they were expecting their first child together. But they decided to put their baby plans on hold until after William’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, had celebrated her 60 years on the throne and they had been on a tour of the Far East as part of their Jubilee commitments.
Kate is currently in hospital suffering from acute morning sickness but the couple are thrilled with the news and think it’s perfect timing.
“As far as everyone in the household is concerned this is wonderful news,” a source said. “Of course there is concern, and the announcement has come earlier than would otherwise have been the case, however next summer really couldn’t be better timing for a baby.
“It was very sensible of them to wait until the Jubilee was over and it made sense for Kate not to be pregnant during the royal tour when she was taking malaria tablets.”
Whether the baby is a boy or a girl, it will one day become monarch following a shake up of the royal succession law which previously meant a male would be able to leap-frog their older sisters to become the king of Britain and the Commonwealth.
“This is a very exciting day and brilliant news,” said British Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg.
“And by happy coincidence we are working right now to put the finishing touches to laws that will update the very old-fashioned rules of succession and mean if they have a baby girl, she will succeed to the throne.”
It was recently revealed that Kate’s pregnancy was even a secret from the Queen!
According to Britain’s Daily Mail newspaper, Kate and William only decided to announce the news of the pregnancy because Middleton was this afternoon taken to King Edward VII Hospital in central London with acute morning sickness and is expected to be kept in for several days. She was admitted only as a precautionary measure.
However, Kate’s parents were already aware their eldest daughter was expecting because she was taken ill while staying at their family home in Berkshire this weekend.
“The pregnancy is in its very early stages — the couple only found out very recently that they were expecting. But because she has been admitted to hospital and will have to stay in for a few days, they made the difficult decision to make things public,” a source said.
Sources suggested that the Duchess was hooked up to an intravenous drip to increase her fluid and nutrient levels.
