People reports: “I was reluctant because he is such an influential guy, and what if it didn’t work out?” Hough, 24, tells InStyle in its Makeover 2012 cover story. “Our first date, I was so nervous that I just sat there and interviewed him with questions like, ‘Are you loyal?’ and ‘Are you close to your family?’ ”
Fast-forward to two years later, the pair – who met in 2007 when the Dancing with the Stars and American Idol sets were across the hall from each other – are totally comfortable in their lovey-dovey relationship.
“When we do see each other, we are super excited and do these cute and romantic things,” Hough, who cooks for her beau, 37, says. “I’m 20 lbs. heavier than I was when we started dating. And now we always have great wine, and I can tell the difference. So I told him, ‘You ruined my life because I can’t go to a friend’s house and drink cheap wine anymore.’ “
People reports: Kate, 30, in a dress by Singaporean-born designer Prabul Gurung, and William, in a business suit, talked diplomacy with the president and Prime Minister and helped inspect a guard of honor at the 143-year-old Istana building.
In his speech at dinner, William talked of the couple’s excitement at being in Singapore, and he went on to say that 2012 had been topped off with the Olympic and Paralympic Games. “They have also reminded us of the shared excitement and pleasure we can all feel when the nations of an often divided world come together to celebrate extraordinary feats of human achievement,” he said.
As for the meal, which started with a jazz performance by Compass Entertainment, William and Kate dined on a seven course Chinese dinner.
On the menu: roasted duck with salad and smoked duck with sliced mango; chicken consomme with herbs, spices and wolfberries; steamed fillet of marble goby with crispy bean crumbs in soya sauce; pan-fried Wagyu beef cubes with radish and carrot; braised bean curd with Honshimeiji mushrooms and spinach; stewed La Mian (hand-made noodles) with chicken wonton (dumpling) and bean curd. Dessert was chilled jelly served with mango, sago and pomelo and sliced baked mooncakes.
Prince William, the Duke and Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, have officially touched down in Southeast Asia in Singapore, where they are going to celebrate the Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee.
People reports: In a nod to her hosts, Kate, 30, wore a pink kimono-style dress with an orchid pattern by British designer Jenny Packham as they arrived Tuesday.
One of their first stops was at the city’s Botanic Gardens to view their famed orchids, including one named for the couple and one named after William’s late mother, Princess Diana.
The Vanda William Catherine is a free-flowering orchid hybrid of white petals with purple-red spots and a purple lip.
The couple also viewed the 3-ft. tall, white Dendrobium Memoria Princess Diana orchid during a moment of reflection.
“It’s a shame,” William said of the fact his mother, who vowed to visit the gardens before her death in 1997, was never able to make a planned trip to Singapore.
“It’s beautiful,” he added of the flower. “Nice, very nice.”
Following their visit to the gardens, William and Kate made their way to the Raffles Hotel where they will be staying for three nights in Singapore. A crowd of around 200 people gathered outside the hotel to cheer their arrival on Tuesday afternoon. William told the welcome line that it had been “a very long flight, but we’re so happy to be here.”
During their tour of Asia, the couple will have some downtime, including a romantic stay on a remote hideaway on the Solomon Islands.
People reports: Now, Britney Spears is hitting back, saying she is never gratuitously nasty – but admits she did model her judging style on her famously cranky costar.
“I used constructive criticism. I learned from the best,” the pop star, 30, says, pointing to fellow judge Cowell during an interview airing Tuesday on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
“I prefer to be honest. I think that’s the best way to go,” she adds. “I wouldn’t want to be told something and then waste seven years of my life. I feel like it’s the thing to do.”
“I’m not disagreeing with you. I’ve been doing it for years,” replies Cowell, 52, though he did reiterate something he said about Spears on a recent conference call: “I’ve never heard someone say no [to contestants] so quickly in my entire life.”
Though she may be a merciless judge, Spears admits to having her own butterflies at first. “I was really nervous,” she says of starting her gig on the show, which premieres its second season on Wednesday night (8 p.m. ET, Fox). “You have all these people behind you, and you know they’re rooting you on. It’s a really exciting, electric thing to do.”
“It could be a Kardashian. I think that would work,” he says. “We have to find people who have a great chemistry, but Khloé is definitely up there in running.”
People reports: “I’ve always wanted a big family. Oh, I’d love 30 [children] if I could,” the actress, 25, tells the October issue of Allure, in an interview held before her hush-hush wedding to Ryan Reynolds.
Lively positively glows in the accompanying photos, and no wonder. The Gossip Girl actress is in demand in Hollywood, and she’s in love.
Star Magazine reports: PEACHES Geldof has married long-term partner Thomas Cohen at her family’s church in Kent.
The couple – who have a five-month old son Astala together – tied the knot in front of friends and family at the St Mary Magdalene and St Lawrence Church.
This was Peaches second marriage, having tied the knot in 2008 with American singer Max Drummey in Las Vegas before splitting in 2009.
Peaches tooks to Twitter on Friday, chatting excitedly about how she would be adding a wedding band to her finger soon.
The DJ accompanied the comment with a snap of her left hand, showing off her amazing engagement ring.
”Very soon my engagement ring will have a wedding band under it! SO excited- my last few days of not being a wife!!!!,” she wrote.
The newly married couple announced their big wedding news back in December before revealing Peaches was expecting their first child.
“The Talk” Sharon Osbourne, Julie Chen, Sara Gilbert, Aisha Tyler and Sheryl Underwood Go Make-Up Free
People reports: Walking out with their hands covering their faces, the ladies eventually revealed their makeup-free selves to the audience, who was equally underdone.
“Gorgeous,” the hosts gushed when Osbourne’s face was revealed alongside a shot of her all done up.
“She has the best skin, like on the planet, I think,” Gilbert said. But a modest Osbourne replied, “No, no, it’s all bought and paid for.”
Following the audience’s laughter, the America’s Got Talent judge told everyone, “I dyed my eyebrows, I dyed my eyelashes.”
Osbourne and her co-hosts weren’t the only celebrities to be made under. Jamie Lee Curtis and The Young and the Restless stars Melody Scott Thomas and Michelle Stafford – along with Katherine Kelly Lang from The Bold and the Beautiful also went makeup-free.
People reports: “They decided early in the summer to break off their engagement and have remained friends,” a rep for the Dancing with the Stars judge tells PEOPLE.
Sloan, 40, proposed to Inaba, 44, on Live! With Regis and Kelly in March 2011.
In the weeks following the surprise proposal, Inaba gushed about how the duo planned to have a seaside wedding so that their guests could walk barefoot on the sand. The ocean, she told PEOPLE, “has such a spiritual meaning. It’s so vast and yet it unites everyone,” Inaba said last year. “We want everybody to get their feet wet in the water after we say our vows.”
Inaba will be back for Dancing‘s 15th season, which kicks off Sept. 24 on ABC.
