Kelly Osbourne is proud of Ozzy Osbourne. The English singer songwriter is the his daughter with talk show host Sharon Osbourne, and she said she is because he was able to overcome his addiction issues. The twenty nine year old Dancing with the Stars contestant found it hard to fight back her tears when in 2012 he briefly fell back into addiction after seven years of being sober. He was given the Stevie Ray Vaughan award during the MusiCares MAP Fund benefit concert on Monday night, May 12. 2014. The Black Sabbath front-man and reformed drug addict had been given the honor because of his contribution to the charity and all his efforts trying to help other people with substance abuse issues, something Kelly, herself has also dealt with in the past. She wrote in a moving tribute on her website:
”Whoever would have guessed that my father would win an award for sobriety? As his daughter who has faced similar struggles, I could not be more proud of the man that my father is today.
”My father was honored with the Stevie Ray Vaughan award (in all honestly I was so proud I had to fight back the tears). I am so grateful to all of my father’s friends and colleagues who came to celebrate such an incredible milestone in his life.”
She continued by thanking heavy metal rockers Metallica for paying tribute to her legendary dad with a rendition of his own track, ‘Diary of a Mad Man’. She enthused:
”I want to thank Metallica for not only taking the time out of their ridiculously busy lives to be there to support my father but seeing them play an acoustic set of some of my father’s favorite songs including their own rendition of ‘Diary of a Mad Man’ was one of the most amazing tributes to my father I have ever seen.
”Thank you to all who were involved for such a successful night and great cause.”
