Elena Baltacha has died. The thirty year old British professional tennis player had liver cancer, it was over the weekend when she passed away at her English home on Sunday morning, she lost her fight with the decease. Her husband and former coach Nino Severino said in a statement:
“We are heartbroken beyond words at the loss of our beautiful, talented and determined Bally. She was an amazing person and she touched so many people with her inspirational spirit, her warmth and her kindness.”
It was just in December when the couple married and then in January she was given the diagnosis. Ever since she was a teenage she was battling a chronic liver condition called, primary sclerosing cholangitis. She was born in Ukraine and in 1989 her family moved to England. Her father was a professional soccer player, and her mother competed in the pentathlon and heptathlon at the Olympics.
She retired last year, winning eleven singles and four doubles titles during her 16-year-career.
