Patti Labelle is embarking on a Lady Marmalade Anniversary tour. She is a very well known singer and author, spending over fifty years in the music industry. Sixteen of those she was the lead vocalist of Patti LaBelle and the Bluebells, changing their name to Labelle with their release of their iconic disco song “Lady Marmalade“. Well now she and her bandmates are in preparation of heading out on a new tour in celebration of the fortieth anniversary of the hit song. It was on Thursday, February 20, 2014 when she announced her amazing plans for a get together. As she spoke to a U.S. talk show Watch What Happens Live, she says,
“Forty years ago was the date of (the release of) Lady Marmalade. Forty years ago we did that song, and we plan to tour again this year.”
The saucy tune was also done by Christina Aguilera, Pink, Mya and Lil’ Kim in 2001.
It hit the top of the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart upon its release in August, 1974 and was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2003.
In 1977 she left the Bluebells pursuing her own solo career. Although she did continue working with them off and on, reuniting with the band in 2005.
