Sophia Loren has won a thirty nine year old tax battle. The seventy nine year old Italian actress, who was high recognized as Italy’s most renowned and honored actress did after a supreme court declares that her 1974 tax return had been covered by a tax amnesty in 1982.
The former Houseboat star is now all clear of tax evasion charges. Which claims that she should have paid seventy per cent of her earnings to the Italian state instead of sixty per cent in the year 1974. The former beauty pageant star, who now lives in Switzerland – was over the moon after the supreme court ruled in her favor.
She was reported by Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera as saying afterwards:
”It’s a miracle of justice. Just when you don’t believe anymore, it finds a way to give you new hope. I was finally proven right.”
Her lawyer, Giovanni Desideri, added:
”It is a Kafkaesque story, this 40-year dispute that Ms Loren has experienced. What’s more, it was for taxes she paid properly. The Supreme Court has now, finally, made this right.”
Back in 1982, the film legend had been given a thirty day prison sentence, also related to tax. However she only spent seventeen in after she had admitted to her accountant – who had subsequently died – had made a mistake.
