Showbiz Spy reports: The network has given the adaptation a straight-to-series order for 13 episodes.
According to reports, CBS Television Studios will produce alongside Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Television.
“This is a great novel coming to the television screen with outstanding auspices and in-season production values to create a summer programming event,” said Nina Tassler, President of CBS Entertainment.
“We’re excited to transport audiences Under the Dome and into the extraordinary world that Stephen King has imagined.”
Under the Dome — first published in November 2009 — tells the story of a small town that becomes sealed off from the rest of the world by a huge transparent dome, leaving its inhabitants to solve the mystery of what has happened.
The new series will premiere on CBS in summer 2013, with The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo director Niels Arden Oplev attached to helm the pilot episode.
