Pope Benedict XVI Joins Twitter!

Pope Benedict XVI has officially joined the technology trend, when he sends his very Tweet to over one million followers on Wednesday, December 2012.

The debut post read, “Dear friends, I am pleased to get in touch with you through Twitter. Thank you for your generous response. I bless all of you from my heart.”

Celeb Spin reports: If you want to join the masses and follow the 85-year-old’s social media page, search for him under the handle @Pontifex, which means “bridge builder” in Latin.

Back in January, Pope Benedict hinted at the move to Twitter by posting a statement, which read, “When people exchange information, they are already sharing themselves, their view of the world, their hopes, their ideals. It follows that there exists a Christian way of being present in the digital world: this takes the form of a communication which is honest and open, responsible and respectful of others.”

“To proclaim the Gospel through the new media means not only to insert expressly religious content into different media platforms, but also to witness consistently, in one’s own digital profile and in the way one communicates choices, preferences and judgements that are fully consistent with the Gospel, even when it is not spoken of specifically.”

If you do decide to follow the Catholic leader, you may be reading words written by his aides. According to Reuters, the pontiff probably won’t write most future tweets.
